For Region 1 QIHM fans: From YA Entertainment’s July newsletter.
*crosses fingers *
Yesterday I watched the last two episodes of Queen In Hyun’s Man, so if you’re worried about spoilers please stop reading, okay? . . . Okay, I just want to say that I really don’t get why some people were so unhappy about the ending because I was absolutely over the moon. Maybe they just wanted a tragic ending because it would seem more “meaningful” to them but I do not subscribe to that point of view. I won’t go into it further because everyone’s entitled to their preferences but I just know that I’ve never felt so ecstatic on behalf of a drama character as I was when Kim Boong Do answered Hee Jin’s call. I mean, look at his face. I can’t even begin to express how much I loved this series from beginning to end. I’m so happy I noticed all the tumblr comments about the show (and Ji Hyun Woo’s charming smile) and jumped in early enough to swoon along with fellow fans through each new episode. It was great, folks.
Ep.15: The uses of a tie.
I know I’ve said it before in regards to QIHM but I love it when a heroine is unapologetic in her pursuit. Good God, why is this show so awesome in so many ways?! And it turns out they’ve just started dating in real life and normally I don’t care one whit about what celebrities do IRL but this is just too many feels to handle at this point.
So the OST for Queen In-Hyun’s Man is finally available for preorder (I’ve been waiting for it for weeks now) and between this and Boyfriend’s Love Style CD I’ve just got ~$6 to go to get free S&H at YesAsia. But what to order?
Edit: Found the perfect thing: Rooftop Prince radish doll phone strap. Problem solved.
“Actress Yoo In Na finally confirmed her relationship with “Queen In Hyun’s Man” co-star Ji Hyun Woo. On June 18, Yoo In Na started out her radio show “Yoo In Na’s Raise the Volume” by saying, “There’s something I would like to tell on ‘Raise the Volume’ tonight.”
She seemed cautious, “I wanted to tell everyone when I’m ready, but there has been way too many guesses and assumptions about the situation.” She started explaining the beginning of her and Ji Hyun Woo’s fresh relationship, “First of all, I figured out my feelings for Ji Hyun Woo during ‘Queen In Hyun’s Man.’ But I didn’t want my real-life feelings to interfere with my character in the show. So I told Ji Hyun Woo that I would like to wait it out until the drama is over, and he waited.”
She continued, “And that big thing (Ji Hyun Woo’s public love confession) happened. Ji Hyun Woo told me that he’s never been greedy or needy in his life, not even to his own mother. But for the first time, he wanted this so badly and he did not want to lose me. All of his words seemed very sincere and I was so thankful. I knew this would affect both of our careers, so I wanted to be cautious and I was maybe a little confused, too. I wondered, ‘Do I deserve this?’ Without any certainties, everything would get so hard in terms of my career, life, and everything. So I thought about it deep and hard for the past ten days and reached the conclusion. We decided to just focus on our own feelings. I called him two days ago to meet up. We took a long walk at a park and I told him ‘Since ‘Queen In Hyun’s Man’ is over, let’s do ‘Yoo In Na’s Man’ now.”
Yoo In Na’s final confirmation of her relationship with Ji Hyun Woo came after almost two weeks since Ji Hyun Woo surprised everyone with his love confession at “Queen In Hyun’s Man” fan event. He stated, “I truly love Yoo In Na.” Since the two seemed to have a great chemistry all throughout filming “Queen In Hyun’s Man,” people started guessing the nature of their relationship and many rumors started. Neither parties released any official follow-up statements and Ji Hyun Woo’s confession seemed to be just a happening. However on June 18, paparazzi shots of Yoo In Na and Ji Hyun Woo holding hands and looking like a couple were released. Right after the release of these photos, Yoo In Na’s agency YG Entertainment announced, “Yoo In Na will talk about it on her radio show.””
Kim Boong Do, you are one extremely smart, brave man.
(Also, you are so lucky that an ambulance or something wasn’t parked on your head.)
So I noticed there are many fans that hope for English subtitles DVDs for K-Series Queen In Hyun’s Man! and are going straightly to the Korean Company of the series and what not. Hopefully that works too. However, there is another alternative company that takes requests from the public for which…
I did actually e-mail YA Entertainment last week and here’s the response* I got yesterday:
“Thank you so much for your email. I totally agree. We NEED to release ‘Queen Inhuyn’s Man’ on DVD with English subtitles. The only problem is the Korean production company is kind of difficult to work with. We will keep trying, but the odds aren’t looking so good. We all need to think good thoughts : ) We will try our best.
I really enjoyed reading your feedback and comments. I think you totally captured all the great points of the drama. I hope we can get it. Yes, I saw the news on many websites recently: “Ji Hyun Woo Confesses His Love for Yoo In Na!” That’s genuine!
Have a great day,
Tom
YA Entertainment Korean TV Dramas on DVD with English Subtitles”
So… looks like YA totally wants to do this but may not be able to for reasons beyond their control. Which is sad, but it is good to know they are at least actively trying to acquire it.
*Can I also just say I love companies that listen & respond to fans? Both times I’ve contacted YA (this, and an email thanking them for picking up Rooftop Prince) I got a personal response back from Tom here.
One of the many, many things I love about this show is they way they handle the time travel element, such as including the inevitable but subtle (so far) changes in history that Kim Boong Do, with his modern-day knowledge of the outcome of historical events, is causing with his jaunts back and forth in time. I also appreciate how the modern day characters are none the wiser, as should be the case. In fact, Hee Jin shouldn’t be asking (as she later does), “Why don’t other people know?”, she should be wondering why she herself is even aware of the altered history. Then again, I’d argue that’s where the magical element (or rather, artistic license) starts to come into play; without it there wouldn’t be much of a story, as everything would be “how it’s always been” to Hee Jin who would then have no reason to react.
God, I could write pages about how great this show is. It’s one of those titles that makes me ache for drama-fan friends irl with whom I could fangirl.
